Excitement: The NOT Fun Kind
On Sunday, we didn't really do all that much for Easter. We USUALLY do the eggs and candy and everything like that on the Saturday before Easter, but since my older son and I had TWO performances of On Golden Pond on Saturday, we decided to postpone it until this upcoming Saturday so we would have the time to spend to have more fun.
So on Sunday evening, we decided to color Easter eggs. I boiled the eggs in the afternoon and in the evening, I was headed into the kitchen to get the dye ready. Both of my sons were in the family room watching a movie. Suddenly, the younger son started crying. I looked over and his glasses were in two pieces.
We THOUGHT he was crying because his glasses had broken. He was just adjusting them and the bridge between the lenses just snapped. That might have been PART of the reason he was crying. But the larger part of the reason behind his tears was because his eye was hurting. He could hardly open his eye at all.
Fortunately there's an InstaCare nearby. Fortunately, it was open.
When the doctor came in, he first put a numbing drop in my son's eye. That made things a LOT better. Then the doctor put some dye in younger son's eye and we looked at it under a black light.
His cornea was scratched almost from one side of his iris to the other. No WONDER the poor boy was in pain! Fortunately, even though it was a long scratch, it wasn't a deep scratch. The doctor sent us away with a prescription for an antibiotic ointment (kind of like Neosporin, but for eyes) to soothe his eye and to keep it from getting infected.
The next adventure of the night was finding a pharmacy in Utah County that was open after 8:00 on a Sunday night. That's another blog post entirely.

Holy cow. Poor kid! Eye injuries totally stink, and I'm glad there wasn't any glass in his eye or anything, because that's what I was anticipating before I read the whole post! My brain said "oh no. OH NO. He got a piece of glass in his eye! no no no no!" and then I finished reading. I hope it gets better soon! Poor guy. :(
Mr. Me
He's feeling much better. He even knows how to put the "goop" (as she calls it) in his own eye. He'll be on the antibiotic ointment another day or two at most.
Costco had the same frame in stock, so we were able to use the same lenses and get him a new pair of glasses for not too much money, and he didn't have to use his old glasses (with an outdated prescription) for a week or two.
He had been hit in the head by a kickball, which tweaked his glasses pretty good. We're pretty sure that was what caused them to suddenly break, or we wouldn't DARE get the same frames again.
It was fun to see you on Saturday, Heidi! Thanks for coming to the show!

I'm glad he's okay. That has to be one of the most random accidents I've ever heard of. Does he get a cool eye patch? Did you get him a parrot to go with it?
Mr. Me
Sorry, no eye patch. Apparently, they found out it doesn't do anything at all to patch they eye. So yeah... No patch. No parrot.
Giggles
He should get a parrot anyway.
Mr. Me
I'll make him a parrot balloon animal. If I got a real parrot, the cats might always look at it as a potential meal.
