Harry the Movie = Meh
My thoughts on this, the opening day of another Harry Potter movie:
- The "Meh" in the title of this post is not a review. I didn't see the movie.
- I forgot to see the previous Harry Potter movie.
- I don't think ANY movie is worth staying up and dealing with hordes of people for a midnight showing.
- There are worse tragedies than not seeing a movie in a theater.
- There are better ways for me to spend my time than waiting in line for a good seat amid people with way too much nervous energy to be sitting through a movie.
- There are better ways for me to spend my money than on a costume of a movie character.
- I have no problem with the people do do any of the aforementioned things. It's just not me.
- I might see it when it comes out on DVD if I've happened to find the previous installment at RedBox first.
- J. K. Rowling has to be SO freaking rich it's not funny.
So there you have it. Meh.

* It is not meh. Just so you know.
* It's good too.
* I don't feel like I dealt with hordes of people.
* Oh sure, but some things just need to be seen on the big screen. That's what they were made for. It's like seeing a Van Gogh outside of an art history book.
* No lines for me. They opened the theater plenty early. And there was no nervous energy I was picking up on. Not this time.
* That's why I make mine, using pieces from other costumes that I have and Goodwill and DI. Saves money.
* And I have no problem with you.
* It should start playing on TV sooner or later.
* Yes, but ALL of her stuff is good. Can Disney say the same? Not so much.

Oh. And I elected not to dress up last night.

Disney, no. Pixar, yes.
Disney's problem is that they constantly recycle public domain crap while working their hardest to ensure that things take longer to get into the public domain. Something wrong there? Yes.
Some things NEED to be seen on the big screen? NEED? Need is too strong a word. If I don't see it on the big screen, I won't suffer from it. I won't die. Need? No. That's completely subjective and personal preference. Besides, isn't pretty much EVERY SINGLE MOVIE made for the big screen? Very very few movies are made for television.
Glad you enjoyed it though.

To clarify, by "need" I mean "to be fully appreciated for everything the move is supposed to be". Will you suffer if you don't see it on the big screen? Of course not. That's just silly. But films composed and shot as beautifully as this particular HP and Lord of the Rings and several others? They are best viewed, in my opinion, on a large, high quality screen and not my little TV. A Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation? Meh.
And I know you must feel at least a little bit the same way, or you wouldn't have a video projector in your basement. ;)
I'm a film nerd. As you know. :)

Ok.
I should know better than to post anything that might even slightly be misconstrued as anti-Harry Potter. Feelings run a little too high there.
So... All done.
