From Road to River

I'm pretty much done with the bike for the year.  Here's the data from the Heber Valley Century:

It was a good ride for me.  I finished 45 minutes faster than I did last time I rode Heber Valley.  The route was a little bit different.  Instead of 3750 feet of climbing, there was 4385 feet of climbing.  The other good thing was that I did this one "iron man" style.  I didn't draft at all.  I rode the entire ride "solo."

Before the ride, I noticed that my back tire was squaring off.  Not a good thing.  So I ended up buying a new set of tires before the ride.  I'm going to try to remember to rotate my tires a little more often now.

So... what do do in the "off season?"  I decided to swim over the winter months to keep in shape and to keep the pounds I've lost from creeping back on.  I have a membership at the Orem Rec Center and I started swimming on Saturday.

On Saturday, I swam 500 meters.  It was slow and clunky, but I didn't swim all that long because my sons were there and I wanted to spend some time playing in the water with them.  On Wednesday, I swam 800 meters.  I wanted to die.  The jury was out for about an hour or so on whether or not I was going to lose my lunch.  IT SUCKED.  But today, I swam a whole kilometer, and I felt a lot better afterwards than I did on Wednesday.  This is good.

It's been a long, LONG time since I've done anything that works out my upper body.  I think swimming is going to be really good for me.

Swimming is deceptively hard. Add in some running and you could do the Iron Man triathlon!

Unfortunately, if I add in some running, I could have double knee-replacement surgery.
