Vacation!

What a wonderful week!

My family spent a relaxing week on vacation last week.  We rented a 4 bedroom house just north of Williams, Arizona.

We woke up when we felt like waking up.  We drove to Grand Canyon National Park.  We stayed as long as we felt like staying, and then we went home and relaxed some more.  One day, we stayed "home" all day, just because we could.

We read, played games, watched movies, and generally didn't rush anything.  It was wonderful!  We hiked 7 or 8 miles of the rim trail of the Grand Canyon, amazed at the ever-changing views of this wonder of the world.

More than just a large hole in the ground...

In the two pictures above, you can really see how the view changed as we hiked.  The rock formation is the same, but from different perspectives as we hiked around the rim of the canyon.

It was an incredible time.  The only sadness is that it's over.

Woo Hoo for Arizona! I live here. I should really go see that some time. But it's clear on the other side of the state, and since I live West of the Mississippi, that means it's much more than a day trip.

West of the Mississippi? How does that make it much more than a day trip?

West of the Mississippi it takes a day (at least) to drive across a state. East of the Mississippi you can drive across a state five times looking for a restaurant for dinner (been there, done that, there are no restaurants in northern Delaware).

So, living almost the whole of Arizona away from the Grand Canyon, even though it and I are both in Arizona, means getting there and back is not exactly a day trip.

Ah... Ok. You mean that we live in the "big square states" as the people back east call them.

Yep. Exactly what we East Coasters call them. :D

We also have a wonderful grid system to our cities which makes it easy to get places. It's hip to be square.

DC has a grid system. I haven't perfected it yet, but it exists. :)
